Gujarat’s Health Department is ramping up its readiness to prevent water-borne and seasonal diseases in South Gujarat amid ongoing heavy rainfall and a red alert for Navsari, Valsad, Surat, and nearby areas.
During a high-level meeting in Gandhinagar, State Health Minister Praful Pansheriya evaluated the department’s readiness and urged officials to enhance micro-planning, maintain backup medical teams, and ensure ample stocks of medicines and essentials for post-flood health challenges.
Pansheriya emphasized the availability of chlorine tablets, essential medications, and disinfectants across all districts to avert disease outbreaks post-flooding, instructing officials to provide regular medical check-ups and continuous healthcare services to those in relief camps.
The minister also scrutinized arrangements for vulnerable groups, especially pregnant women in remote villages potentially cut off due to heavy rains, seeking plans for their safe transfer to nearby Community Health Centres before accessibility issues arise.
