Gujarat is set to host the SemiConnect Conference-2026 on March 1 and 2 in Gandhinagar, showcasing the state’s semiconductor projects valued at around Rs 1.24 lakh crore. This move aligns with India’s goal of becoming a significant player in chip manufacturing. State Science and Technology Minister Arjun Modhwadia highlighted the importance of this conference in advancing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of establishing India as a global semiconductor hub.
The disruption in global supply chains due to the Covid-19 pandemic, especially in semiconductor production, emphasized the critical need for domestic chip manufacturing. Modi’s initiative to position India as a semiconductor hub has propelled the nation to the forefront of semiconductor and fifth-generation smart manufacturing globally. Gujarat is emerging as a key national hub for semiconductor production, attracting substantial investments that are currently in progress.
The two-day conference will witness the presence of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Union Minister for Information and Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw, and Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi. It serves as a premier platform for the semiconductor industry in the state, fostering collaboration between global and domestic partners across the electronics value chain. This initiative aims to solidify Gujarat’s position as a center for memory packaging and advanced semiconductor manufacturing, thereby bolstering India’s electronics production and technological capabilities.
The event will facilitate partnerships among high-tech chip manufacturers, supply chain partners, and domestic industries to drive long-term ecosystem development. With over 2,500 registrations from more than eight countries, the conference is expected to attract industry leaders, researchers, investors, and students. Key investors like Dr. Randhir Thakur of Tata Electronics and Sanjay Mehrotra of Micron Technology are among the prominent figures slated to attend, along with other industry experts.
