Gujarat will feature a special tableau titled “The Mantra of Independence: Vande Mataram” to commemorate the 77th Republic Day. This tableau will depict the journey of the Indian national flag, showcasing its evolution, symbolism, and historical significance related to the freedom movement. The display will honor notable leaders from Gujarat, including Shyamji Krishna Varma, Sardar Singh Rana, and Madam Bhikaiji Cama, who raised the “Vande Mataram” flag in Paris in 1907.
The tableau will visually narrate the origins of Vande Mataram, the flag’s creation, transformations, and historical importance. It will prominently feature Mahatma Gandhi and the charkha, symbolizing the Swadeshi movement and its relevance in the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat. Additionally, it will showcase Madam Bhikhaiji Cama holding the flag she raised in Paris, along with the Constitution’s acknowledgment of Vande Mataram in various Indian languages.
The central segment of the tableau will trace the evolution of the national flag since 1906, starting from its first display in Kolkata and culminating in its final adoption with the Ashoka Chakra in 1947. The display will also include performances by artists to the tune of the Gujarati patriotic song “Kasumbi no Rang” by national poet Jhaverchand Meghani. Prepared under the guidance of Information and Broadcasting Secretary Dr. Vikrant Pandey, this tableau will be one of the 30 displays featured in the Republic Day parade this year.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President António Costa are expected to attend the Republic Day celebrations as chief guests.
