The Gujarat government introduced its Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) Policy 2026–31 during the Gujarat SemiConnect Conference-2026 in Gandhinagar. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel highlighted the state’s focus on expanding semiconductor manufacturing, design, and research at the event. The conference, themed “Gujarat: India’s Silicon Gateway,” saw the presence of Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, and State Minister Arjun Modhwadia, along with officials and representatives from semiconductor companies.
Chief Minister Patel emphasized the shift in Gujarat’s economic landscape, stating that the state is transitioning into a technology hub. He praised Gujarat’s advancements in semiconductor and chip manufacturing, attributing the progress to policy stability, transparency, and a conducive business environment. Patel reiterated Gujarat’s commitment to supporting national initiatives like “Viksit Bharat @ 2047” and “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” to propel the country’s hardware sector forward.
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Patel highlighted India’s growing presence in the hardware industry. He mentioned the transformation of Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR) into a hub for semiconductor activities, emphasizing the development of infrastructure, logistics, and skilled workforce in the region. Patel also underscored Gujarat’s focus on green growth, leveraging its renewable energy resources for sustainable development.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, reflecting on India’s semiconductor journey, announced the inauguration of Micron’s first plant in Sanand by Prime Minister Modi. He outlined plans for Semicon 2.0, aiming to establish India as a global hub for semiconductor design, manufacturing, and talent. Vaishnaw emphasized the government’s commitment to promoting deep-tech start-ups and addressing the global shortage of semiconductor professionals through targeted training programs.
Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi highlighted Gujarat’s appeal to investors, citing the state’s high return on investment and secure business environment. He presented economic statistics showcasing Gujarat’s significant contributions to India’s manufacturing output, GDP, exports, and cargo handling. State Minister Arjun Modhwadia emphasized the importance of semiconductor industry resilience in the face of global disruptions, positioning India as a key player in semiconductor manufacturing and supply chain resilience.
