In a setback for the Indian team, all-rounder Hardik Pandya is expected to sit out of the upcoming three-match ODI series against Afghanistan due to a leg injury. Pandya, who recently faced back spasms during the IPL 2026, was undergoing training at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru in preparation for the series.
Despite being close to receiving clearance for the ODI series, Pandya suffered a minor leg injury, requiring a few weeks for recovery. This unforeseen setback has put his participation in the series in doubt, leaving India without his valuable contributions as they gear up for the 2027 Men’s ODI World Cup.
Pandya’s absence poses a challenge for India, as his dual role as a seam-bowling all-rounder has been pivotal to the team’s ODI strategies. Having not played a 50-over game since the 2025 Champions Trophy, his fitness remains a concern, with uncertainties about his availability for the upcoming series against England in July.
The Indian team had earlier dealt with the absence of Virat Kohli due to a hamstring injury, with Yashasvi Jaiswal stepping in as his replacement. There is speculation about Shivam Dube or Nitish Kumar Reddy potentially filling in for Pandya, as India navigates through the selection process for the series.
