In a move towards women empowerment, the Haryana Assembly, in a special one-day session, passed a government resolution for the formation of a special committee on women empowerment. This initiative, under the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, makes Haryana the first state to take such a step. The nine-member committee in the Vidhan Sabha will include five women members, with a tenure of one year.
Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini’s request led to the announcement by Speaker Harvinder Kalyan about the committee’s formation. The Chief Minister expressed gratitude for the approval, stating that the committee’s establishment aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for empowering women. The Congress boycotted the session, holding a mock assembly outside the Vidhan Sabha.
CM Saini emphasized the importance of women’s roles in society, advocating for 33% reservation for women in state Assemblies, similar to the Lok Sabha provisions. The resolution, passed by voice vote, aims to ensure women’s participation in governance. Referring to the national vision of a developed India by 2047, he highlighted women as a key pillar alongside the poor, youth, and farmers.
