Haryana has made significant strides in the ongoing Census 2027 Houselisting and Housing Census (HLO) activities, with most areas in the state already starting houselisting tasks. Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi conducted a thorough review meeting via video conference with key officials to evaluate the progress and readiness for the nationwide census completion. He emphasized the importance of the Census in shaping policies, planning development, allocating resources, and implementing welfare programs.
During the meeting, the Chief Secretary instructed all officers to prioritize the Census work and ensure its diligent and efficient execution. Any employee failing to fulfill their census duties would face strict disciplinary measures. Dr. Lalit Jain, the Director of Census Operations, reported that over 97% of houselisting blocks in Haryana have initiated work, with districts like Yamunanagar, Kurukshetra, and Faridabad achieving 100% commencement in houselisting activities.
Charkhi Dadri emerged as the leading district with over 32% of the work completed, showcasing notable progress in various districts like Fatehabad, Hansi, Jind, and Mahendragarh. Panipat Municipal Corporation has the highest percentage of completed work, followed by Rohtak and Faridabad, indicating steady urban progress. Financial Commissioner Sumita Misra highlighted the need for active cooperation from local bodies and associations to ensure a smooth and timely census completion at the grassroots level.
Misra emphasized involving gram sabhas in the Census process and raising awareness through Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) activities. District administrations were advised to adjust employee working hours for census duties to meet the stipulated timeline for field operations effectively.
