The Haryana State Commission for Women (HSCW) has initiated an investigation into the reported sexual assault of a 17-year-old national-level shooter by her coach at a Faridabad hotel during a championship in December last year. Renu Bhatia, the Chairperson of HSCW, has urged the Haryana Police Commissioner to set up a dedicated team to probe the matter and provide an update on the FIR status.
In response to the FIR filed in Faridabad, alleging that the coach sexually assaulted the young shooter and threatened her career, the Commission has called for urgent action and compliance within the specified timeframe. The incident, as per the FIR, took place on December 16 during a national-level shooting competition in South Delhi, where the coach allegedly coerced the athlete to his hotel room under the guise of performance review.
The FIR details how the coach purportedly assaulted the shooter in the hotel room and warned her against disclosing the incident by threatening her career and family. Following the complaint, the police have registered a case under relevant sections of the law, considering the athlete’s minor status at the time of the alleged offense. Investigations are ongoing, with efforts to gather evidence, including CCTV footage, witness statements, and electronic data, to substantiate the claims.
