Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda highlighted the significant 176% rise in the health sector budget in the last 12 years, showcasing the government’s dedication to enhancing healthcare accessibility. He applauded the 2026 Union Budget, noting a 9% increase in health sector funds compared to the previous year. Nadda, in a video message, praised the 2026-27 Union Budget as a forward-looking plan for public welfare and economic progress under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.
The Health Minister emphasized that the budget, exceeding Rs 1.05 lakh crore this year, reflects the government’s commitment to inclusive healthcare services. He welcomed the budget’s focus on mental health and lauded initiatives like upgrading the Central Institute of Psychiatry and establishing NIMHANS in North India. Nadda also commended the proposal to invest Rs 10,000 crore in the biopharma sector over the next five years to boost domestic production of modern biological drugs.
Nadda further highlighted the plan to enhance Allied Healthcare Institutes to address non-communicable diseases and the proposal to establish trauma and emergency centers in every district hospital. He praised the increased budget for medical research and innovation, aiming to develop new medicines and treatment methods. The Health Minister underscored the budget’s goal of sustaining economic growth and providing equal opportunities for all citizens to progress.
