The Gujarat Assembly recently engaged in a heated discussion regarding the allocation of T20 World Cup final tickets over the past two days. The issue drew attention from both ruling and Opposition legislators in the state. BJP MLA Arvind Patel expressed concerns about the unavailability of tickets for the India vs New Zealand final held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on March 8. In response, a state Minister assured that arrangements would be made for legislators for any future final matches.
Congress MLA Imran Khedawala clarified the situation by mentioning that he had initially planned to celebrate India’s victory by wearing a Team India jersey and bringing a cake. However, he canceled the plan upon learning about a minute of silence scheduled in memory of BJP leader and Umreth MLA Govind Parmar in the state Assembly. Khedawala highlighted that unlike Arvind Patel, no Congress MLA had requested match tickets.
Opposition leaders criticized the focus on cricket tickets amidst ongoing public service issues. Aam Aadmi Party MLA Gopal Italia, along with party legislators Chaitar Vasava, Hemant Khava, and Sudhir Vaghani, expressed disappointment over the discussion in the House revolving around cricket match tickets rather than addressing public concerns. Italia emphasized the need to address pressing issues such as school admissions, hospital bed shortages, and inadequate public transportation services for the underprivileged.
The debate unfolded against the backdrop of the high demand for ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 final tickets, which took place on March 8. Authorities have taken action against multiple individuals involved in selling tickets at inflated prices and cautioned the public about counterfeit and black-market sales. The Assembly House proceedings resumed after a week-long break, with the focus shifting to the issue of cricket final tickets, sparking discussions among legislators.
