Heatwave conditions have struck various parts of Telangana, with temperatures soaring to 46 degrees Celsius on Sunday. Notably, 12 districts registered temperatures exceeding 45 degrees Celsius, well above the usual 41.3 degrees Celsius. Nizamabad emerged as the hottest location, recording a scorching 46 degrees Celsius.
Several districts closely trailed Nizamabad in the heatwave, with Nalgonda, Nirmal, and Siddipet hitting 45.9 degrees Celsius, as per data from the Telangana Development Planning Society (TDPS). Adilabad and Peddapalli districts experienced maximum temperatures of 45.8 degrees Celsius, while Kamareddy and Kumuram Bheem districts reported 45.7 degrees Celsius.
The Telangana Development Planning Society’s daily weather report highlighted that Jagtial and Khammam districts witnessed maximum temperatures of 45.6 degrees Celsius, with Suryapet district at 45.5 degrees Celsius and Mancherial district at 45.1 degrees Celsius. Except for Hyderabad, all districts recorded maximum temperatures above 42.6 degrees Celsius, with Hyderabad marking the lowest at 42.5 degrees Celsius.
The Meteorological Centre in Hyderabad issued a thunderstorm warning for Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, and Bhadradri Kothagudem districts, with the possibility of hailstorms accompanied by thunderstorms in these areas. Additionally, lightning with maximum surface wind speeds of 40–50 kmph is forecasted.
Light thunderstorms, along with lightning and maximum surface wind speeds of 30–40 kmph, are expected in Khammam, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Warangal, Hanumakonda, Siddipet, Mulugu, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Mancherial, and Kumuram Bheem Asifabad districts. Telangana may witness isolated instances of light to moderate rain or thundershowers over the next week.
The Meteorological Centre anticipates no significant change in maximum temperatures over the next two days, followed by a gradual decrease of 2 to 3 degrees Celsius in the subsequent three days. Authorities advise the public not to panic but to remain vigilant and safe during the expected May heatwave, emphasizing that awareness and simple precautions can effectively manage the conditions.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast, certain regions may experience temperatures above normal.
