The Regional Meteorological Centre predicts heavy rainfall and strong winds in six districts of Tamil Nadu on Saturday due to an upper-air trough from coastal Andhra Pradesh to central Maharashtra. This weather system is expected to bring scattered rainfall to various parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal in the upcoming week. Specifically, Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Tiruvannamalai, and Ranipet districts are likely to experience heavy rain and gusty winds.
Residents in the mentioned areas are advised to be cautious as heavy showers and strong winds could lead to waterlogging, traffic disruptions, and localized damage. The weather system is also anticipated to bring widespread rainfall to southern and western districts, with heavy rainfall expected in hilly regions like Virudhunagar, Tenkasi, and Tirunelveli on Sunday. Additionally, moderate to heavy rain is forecasted for districts including the Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Dindigul, Theni, Madurai, and Kanyakumari.
Meteorologists note that the prevailing atmospheric conditions are enhancing moisture inflow into Tamil Nadu, resulting in widespread rainfall activity. While these showers may offer relief from the heat, authorities warn that intense rainfall in some areas could cause temporary flooding in low-lying regions and disrupt normal life. Fishermen along the southern Tamil Nadu coast are under a marine warning until June 30, with strong winds of up to 60 kmph expected in the South Tamil Nadu coastal waters, the Gulf of Mannar, and the Comorin Sea.
Fishermen are strongly advised to avoid venturing into these waters due to rough sea conditions and the potential for squally weather. Officials are closely monitoring the evolving weather system and urge the public to stay informed through official weather bulletins and follow advisories issued by local authorities for safety during adverse weather conditions.
