Heavy rainfall and strong winds in Gir Somnath caused flooding in villages and rough sea conditions. The district administration conducted multiple rescue operations, evacuating over 250 residents, rescuing four trapped individuals, and bringing four fishermen ashore. In Gangda village, the largest rescue operation evacuated around 250 people after the Rupen River breached its embankment due to intense rainfall.
The breach led to floodwater entering the New Plot and Untwala Road areas, leaving residents stranded. A joint rescue effort by various authorities shifted residents to safety at Gangda Primary School and Bapa Sitaram Ashram. Accommodation, food, and sleeping arrangements were provided for evacuees, ensuring their well-being.
In Sultanpur village, four individuals trapped in a flooded house were rescued by the district administration after rainwater inundated low-lying areas. The Mamlatdar’s office and the SDRF collaborated to safely evacuate the stranded occupants to Sultanpur Primary School. The SDRF remains on high alert across the district to address the impacts of heavy rainfall and ensure coordinated response efforts.
Additionally, rough sea conditions along the district’s coastline caused several vessels to break free. Boats and fishing craft drifted into the sea near Syed Rajpara village in Una taluka due to strong winds and heavy rainfall. The Indian Coast Guard rescued four fishermen from a drifting boat, bringing them safely ashore at Navabandar. All rescue operations were successfully completed, with emergency teams remaining active in response to the ongoing heavy rainfall.
