Heavy rains persist in various parts of Maharashtra, with the India Meteorological Department issuing a ‘Red Alert’ for Nashik Ghat areas, Pune Ghat areas, Palghar, and Raigad districts. Additionally, an ‘Orange Alert’ has been issued for Mumbai, Thane, Ratnagiri, Nashik, Satara Ghat areas, Akola, and Amravati districts. Due to these alerts, schools and colleges in multiple districts have declared a holiday today as a precautionary measure against the ongoing rainfall.
Educational institutions in Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Navi Mumbai, Kalyan-Dombivli, Bhiwandi, Nashik, and rural parts of Pune will remain closed. The decision was made by district authorities considering the continuous rainfall over the past three days and the risk of waterlogging. Although Mumbai has experienced a temporary pause in heavy rain, an ‘Orange Alert’ remains in effect for the city, with citizens advised to stay vigilant due to the possibility of heavy rain and strong winds.
Despite a brief respite from heavy rainfall in Mumbai, the Mithi River is flowing at full capacity, and the city continues to be under an ‘Orange Alert’ for heavy rain. The Western Railway is experiencing delays of 15 to 20 minutes on local train services, with disruptions in the Vasai-Virar section due to waterlogging. Similarly, Central Railway services are running behind schedule, with the Harbour Line also facing delays.
Palghar district faced severe rainfall yesterday, leading to overflowing rivers and streams in various areas. The Tansa River reached dangerous levels, causing flooding in riverside villages. The Vaitarna River near Manor also experienced severe flooding, affecting nearby villages. The Mumbai-Ahmedabad National Highway near Dhekale came to a standstill due to mudslides and heavy rain, disrupting daily life in Palghar district.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has cautioned about a potential cloudburst in Nashik and emphasized the importance of responding responsibly to weather alerts. He mentioned that holidays have been declared for non-essential services and warned against forcing employees to work during official holidays and safety warnings.
