A high-level inquiry has been initiated following the health deterioration of eight women who underwent Caesarean deliveries at Paota District Hospital in Jodhpur. The incident occurred on June 20, with the women developing serious health complications shortly after the surgeries. Senior Congress leader Sachin Pilot expressed concern over the incident and criticized the state government for the healthcare system’s condition.
In response to the incident, Pilot highlighted reports of severe health complications among the women, including kidney failure in two cases. He pointed out previous incidents in Kota and Bikaner, where similar complications arose post-childbirth. Pilot emphasized the declining state of medical services under the current government, calling for a thorough investigation, accountability for any negligence, financial aid for affected families, and improved medical care.
Jodhpur District Collector Alok Ranjan conducted an inspection at Paota District Hospital to assess medical arrangements. He emphasized the importance of ensuring no negligence in patient care and providing necessary medical facilities promptly. Dr. B.S. Jodha, Principal of Dr S.N. Medical College, mentioned that the affected women were under close medical observation, with two women facing serious complications post-surgery.
Blood and urine samples of the affected women, as well as medical equipment used during the surgeries, have been sent for testing. All procedures in the gynaecology operation theatre have been halted pending test results. While initial findings show no staff negligence, an ongoing inquiry will determine further actions based on the final investigation report.
