The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning about the likelihood of discomfort due to high temperatures and humidity in coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal in the upcoming days. Additionally, light rain is expected in the Western Ghats region. Weather conditions in Tamil Nadu are anticipated to vary, with interior areas experiencing intensified heat and some regions receiving light rainfall. Interior parts of Tamil Nadu may see temperatures rise by up to 3 degrees Celsius above normal levels until April 19.
Coastal districts like Puducherry and Karaikal are projected to have temperatures close to normal levels. However, the prevailing high humidity in these areas may lead to uncomfortable conditions, especially during the daytime. The IMD has cautioned that the combination of high temperatures and humidity could result in heat stress in isolated pockets. Rainfall activity is predicted to bring relief in certain regions, with light rain expected in Western Ghats districts until April 21.
Isolated rainfall is also likely in delta districts, parts of southern coastal Tamil Nadu, and the Karaikal region. The rainfall is expected to be light and scattered, with minimal impact on the prevailing heat conditions in the State. Nevertheless, localized showers in the Western Ghats region might slightly reduce temperatures. In Chennai, partly cloudy skies are forecasted for the upcoming days, with the maximum temperature expected to be around 99 degrees Fahrenheit (approximately 37 degrees Celsius) and high humidity contributing to sultry conditions.
Residents, especially in coastal areas, are advised by the IMD to take precautions to avoid heat-related discomfort. It is recommended to stay hydrated, minimize direct sunlight exposure, and schedule outdoor activities during cooler times of the day. Weather officials are closely monitoring the situation due to the persistent impact of heat and humidity and will provide further updates if necessary.
