Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu led the state-level International Yoga Day event in Hamirpur district, where he joined around 2,000 participants in a 45-minute yoga session. The event, organized by the Department of Ayush at the Synthetic Track Ground of the Sports Authority of India (SAI) in Anu, began with the Chief Minister lighting a ceremonial lamp and offering prayers to Lord Dhanvantari.
Sukhu inaugurated the yoga session and unveiled a booklet focusing on various yoga postures and practices related to the International Day of Yoga. Following the yoga session, he engaged with young trainees and athletes, emphasizing the government’s commitment to providing top-notch facilities for talented athletes.
A modern indoor stadium is under construction in Nadaun at a cost of around Rs 125 crore, set to be dedicated to the state’s athletes later this year. The stadium will offer international-standard facilities for 14 sports, including swimming, badminton, volleyball, and tennis. The government has also introduced significant cash rewards for medal winners in international competitions, with gold medalists at the Asian Games receiving Rs 3 crore, silver medalists Rs 2 crore, and bronze medalists up to Rs 1.5 crore.
The Chief Minister highlighted the government’s efforts to enhance support for athletes, such as increased diet allowances, provisions for air travel, and air-conditioned train journeys. Budgetary allocations are also being made for the repair and renovation of the synthetic track ground at Anu.
