Himachal Pradesh Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh announced the deployment of 4,228 multi-task workers to restore road connectivity affected by the monsoon. Additionally, 11,137 ‘beldars’ have been stationed across the state for the same purpose. The department has readied 1,156 departmental and private machines, including JCBs and bulldozers, for continuous road restoration work.
The minister emphasized strategic positioning of machinery, Bailey bridges, and construction materials at crucial locations. Advance tendering has been completed to ensure the availability of extra private machinery when needed. Before the monsoon’s arrival, the department resurfaced 155.95 km of roads, conducted patchwork on 924.94 km, cleaned drainage channels along 8,893.58 km of roads, and cleared culverts on 9,414 km of roads.
Officials were instructed to maintain regular cleaning of drains and culverts to reduce waterlogging damage. They were also tasked with ensuring uninterrupted road connectivity to essential institutions like hospitals, police stations, and educational facilities. Vulnerable roads, bridges, and landslide-prone areas are to be closely monitored during the monsoon.
The minister directed officials to promptly report any damage from landslides, cloudbursts, or floods to revenue authorities, providing photographs and videos for assessment. Control rooms will operate round-the-clock during the monsoon to ensure swift responses to emergencies.
