Hockey India has organized a special goalkeeping camp for the Indian women’s hockey team at SAI, Bengaluru, from April 22 to May 2. The camp, led by David Williamson and overseen by chief coach Sjoerd Marijne, includes players like Savita, Bansari Solanki, Bichu Devi Kharibam, and Madhuri Kindo. This initiative aims to enhance India’s goalkeeping unit ahead of upcoming international events.
Anandana, the Coca-Cola India Foundation, is supporting the camp, continuing their efforts to promote women’s hockey in India. They have also backed the recent 16th Hockey India Sub Junior Women’s National Championship 2026. David Williamson, an experienced coach from Northern Ireland, brings his expertise to the camp, having worked with the US women’s national team and the Odisha Warriors in the Women’s Hockey India League.
Sjoerd Marijne, the team’s Chief Coach, praised the goalkeepers for their strong performances during the recent Argentina tour. With important tournaments scheduled from June onwards, he emphasized the significance of focused training. The camp also includes junior team goalkeepers training alongside seniors, providing valuable exposure for their development and transition to the senior level.
Veteran goalkeeper Savita expressed gratitude for the support towards women’s hockey, highlighting its positive impact on both current and aspiring players. She emphasized the importance of such backing in boosting confidence and belief among young athletes. Devyani Rana from Coca-Cola India affirmed their commitment to women’s sports development, emphasizing the transformative impact of junior-senior training partnerships on players’ growth and opportunities.
