Hockey India’s general secretary, Bhola Nath Singh, explained that Manpreet Singh’s exclusion from the squad was not a decision made by the team management. Manpreet had requested a break, which was respected. Alongside Manpreet, goalkeeper Krishan Bahadur Pathak and forward Dilpreet Singh were also not included in the 33-member squad for the national preparatory camp for the FIH Pro League.
Reports had earlier suggested that Manpreet was dropped due to alleged disciplinary issues related to an incident during India’s series in South Africa. Bhola Nath Singh dismissed these claims, reiterating that it was Manpreet’s own decision. He emphasized that deserving and fit players will always have opportunities, emphasizing that no external factor can hinder their selection.
Manpreet had expressed his need for a break to spend time with his family after continuous hockey engagements since the Paris Olympics 2024. He mentioned that the break would allow him to recharge mentally and return stronger. The FIH Men’s Pro League is set to take place in Rourkela from February 10 to 15, marking India’s first campaign of the year.
