At least 388 adults and 10 minors in Karachi, Pakistan, experienced domestic violence, harassment, abuse, and related crimes from January to April this year, as per the Police Women and Child Protection Cell. The majority of reported cases involved domestic violence, with 297 complaints received during this period. While 190 complaints were resolved, nearly 100 cases are still pending, indicating delays in providing assistance to victims.
The rise in harassment cases in Karachi is evident, with 83 complaints received by the protection cell. Among these complaints, 42 have been resolved, while action is ongoing for the remaining 41 complaints. Authorities have lodged one formal case in a harassment incident, highlighting the seriousness of the issue.
Additionally, the protection cell received 19 complaints concerning sexual assault and other forms of intimidation. Of these, nine complaints have been resolved, while 10 cases are currently under investigation and legal proceedings. A recent report highlighted the increasing human rights abuses in Pakistan, particularly affecting vulnerable groups, with women bearing the brunt of structural inequalities.
