In a move to boost internal security and tackle anti-social activities, the Hyderabad City Police initiated a significant security initiative named “Operation Kavach”. The operation involved extensive searches at 562 hotels and lodges in the city, with the participation of around 5,000 police personnel.
The inspections, conducted between 11:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m., were overseen by Hyderabad City Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar. The Commissioner personally visited various lodges near Nampally Railway Station and Ameerpet, reviewing room allocation procedures and identity verification processes.
Covering all seven zones of the Hyderabad Commissionerate, the operation saw the highest number of inspections in Khairatabad with 119 establishments. Shamshabad followed with 92 inspections, while Jubilee Hills and Golconda each had 86 inspections. Additionally, Secunderabad, Rajendranagar, and Charminar were also part of the operation.
Commissioner Sajjanar emphasized the importance of strict compliance with security regulations, instructing hotel and lodge operators to verify original identity documents and maintain accurate guest records. He warned against accommodating minors without proper age verification and announced plans for a Digital Visitor Management System.
