Police Commissioner V. C. Sajjanar mentioned that the crackdown, known as ‘Operation Kavach,’ aimed to maintain peace and security in the city. During the operation, a total of 12,098 vehicles were inspected, including 8,802 two-wheelers, 1,693 four-wheelers, and 1,623 autorickshaws.
Authorities identified 1,406 vehicles with improperly fitted number plates, 1,132 lacking original plates, and 69 with fake plates. Sajjanar emphasized that such violations are not mere traffic offenses but serious threats to societal security.
Inspections will persist in the upcoming days across all vehicle types, with a reminder for owners to carry valid documents. The public is urged to cooperate with the police to uphold the city’s peace and security.
Number plate tampering not only aids criminals in evading the law but also creates challenges for law enforcement by involving innocent citizens in legal issues. To combat this issue, law enforcement personnel are stationed at strategic locations within each police station’s jurisdiction for inspections.
The Commissioner personally oversaw the inspection process, stopping vehicles and scrutinizing their number plates. He interacted with motorists whose vehicles had improper plates, stressing the importance of compliance with regulations and directing legal action against violators.
