The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted ongoing rainfall in Assam for the next two to three days, cautioning about thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds in various parts of the state. The prevailing weather conditions in Assam are influenced by an upper air cyclonic circulation over northeast Assam and adjacent areas, along with another system over northeast Bangladesh. These weather systems are expected to sustain and intensify widespread rainfall, leading to persistent wet conditions. Moderate rainfall is likely in many places in Assam, with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall in some districts. Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching 40–50 kmph are also expected in isolated locations, posing risks to structures, crops, and outdoor activities.
These weather patterns may trigger urban flooding, traffic disruptions, and local landslides, especially in low-lying areas, waterlogged pockets, and hillside regions. Authorities have advised residents to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions. In the past 24 hours, Guwahati and surrounding areas experienced intense rainfall, with Khanapara recording over 215 mm and Gauhati University receiving more than 100 mm of rainfall. Continued rainfall could worsen waterlogging, disrupt vehicular movement, and increase the risk of tree falls and infrastructure damage. The forecast for Guwahati and nearby areas includes cloudy skies with intermittent rain or thundershowers, along with occasional gusty winds.
Daytime temperatures are expected to range between 30 to 33 degrees Celsius, with a slight increase towards the week’s end as conditions stabilize. The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) has advised against unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall, urging people to avoid waterlogged areas and follow official weather updates. Emergency response systems are on alert, and authorities are closely monitoring the situation.
