The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted widespread rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning in Assam over the next week. Various districts in the state are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places. The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Guwahati has issued a district-wise weather forecast and warning for western, central, and southern Assam from June 10 to June 16.
The IMD has specifically cautioned about thunderstorms and heavy to very heavy rainfall in districts like Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa, Barpeta, and others on different days. Western Assam, including Kokrajhar, Chirang, and Baksa, is likely to witness intense rainfall between June 11 and June 13. Similarly, central Assam areas such as Tamulpur and Udalguri may experience heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated locations.
In the Brahmaputra Valley, thunderstorm activity with lightning is expected in districts like Kamrup (Metro), Kamrup (Rural), Darrang, and more. While some districts may have brief breaks, overall rainfall is anticipated to be widespread. Upper Assam districts such as Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Jorhat, and others could see moderate to heavy rainfall with isolated instances of very heavy rain along with thunderstorms.
Southern Assam regions, including Dima Hasao, Cachar, Hailakandi, and Sribhumi, are also likely to experience continuous rain and thunderstorm activity. Residents, especially those in vulnerable areas, are advised to stay vigilant and follow official weather updates. The IMD has specified that the warnings are in effect from 8:30 a.m. on the mentioned day until 8:30 a.m. the following day.
