New Delhi, Aug 14 (IANS) Seventeen officers and personnel of the Delhi Police have been selected for service medals on the upcoming Independence Day, in recognition of distinguished and meritorious service.

The honours include two President’s Medals for Distinguished Service (PSM) and 15 Medals for Meritorious Service (MSM).

Among the recipients of the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service are Dinesh Kumar Gupta, IPS and Additional Commissioner of Police; and Sub-Inspector (Executive) Rajesh Kumar.

Gupta, a 2010-batch AGMUT cadre officer, has served in a wide range of operational and specialised assignments. He served as Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in several subdivisions and as Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in multiple districts and units. As DCP, he served in Railway, IGI Airport, Traffic, Recruitment Cell and Shahdara District. He also served in Arunachal Pradesh, where he addressed local policing challenges. In his present role as Additional Commissioner of Police (CP)/Traffic, he has overseen traffic management during major public events, religious congregations, Parliamentary sessions and national ceremonies. He was previously awarded the Medal for Meritorious Service in 2018.

Rajesh Kumar joined the Delhi Police as a Constable in 1988 and has rendered nearly four decades of service. He played a key role in establishing and maintaining the Quarter Allotment Cell website from its inception in 2010, helping make government accommodation processes more transparent and systematic. He also served as the nodal officer for the Directorate of Estates and has handled important administrative responsibilities at Rohini District. He received the MSM in 2005.

The 15 recipients of the Medal for Meritorious Service include senior officers, inspectors and personnel who have contributed to crime prevention, investigation, digitisation, law and order, public service and administration.

Surender Kumar, IPS and Joint CP, has been recognised for his leadership in policing, immigration and internal security. He pioneered the e-Beat Book in Delhi Police and contributed to several technology-driven policing initiatives, including e-Beat Book 2.0, e-FRRO, cyber-fraud e-FIR integration and improvements to criminal databases. He also played a significant role in extradition operations and the implementation of new criminal laws.

Nupur Prasad, IPS and Joint CP, has been honoured for her leadership across policing, investigation and public-oriented initiatives. As the first DCP of Shahdara, she established the district’s policing framework and acted against drug networks and organised crime. Her assignments have also included the Central Bureau of Investigation, Arunachal Pradesh and West Bengal. She has promoted women’s self-defence, youth development, cyber safety and drug de-addiction initiatives.

Other awardees include Inspector Rakesh Kumar Bhatt, recognised for scientific investigation and immigration-related work; Inspector Tara Dutt, for exceptional administrative and stenographic service; and Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Kailash Chand, for 36 years of dedicated service.

Among the personnel recognised for operational and investigative contributions are Woman Assistant Sub-Inspector (W/ASI) Anjana Kumari, who participated in operations against terrorists, gangsters and other serious offenders; ASI Satish Patil, who contributed to major criminal investigations and the arrest of a wanted terrorist; and ASI Anand Ballabh, noted for solving challenging cases and effective public dealings.

The list also includes ASI Pradeep Kumar Sharma, W/ASI Bindu, W/ASI Dinesh Kumari, W/HC Lalita, W/HC Sharmila, W/HC Pushpa Rani and Head Constable Vijay Singh, whose services have covered law and order, public assistance, administration, digital processes, record management and security duties.
