The summit’s theme, “IA SPIRIT — India Africa Strategic Partnership for Innovation, Resilience, and Inclusive Transformation,” underscores the ambitious goals of the gathering. The need for a deeper partnership has become more pronounced in light of recent global challenges, emphasizing the mutual benefits of enhanced cooperation. The ongoing crisis in the Persian Gulf has highlighted the shared vulnerabilities of both India and Africa, particularly in energy security.
Zuri Amondi, a Nairobi-based journalist, points out the evolving energy landscape in Africa and India’s role as a significant energy consumer. India’s interest in diversifying its energy sources presents opportunities for African oil and gas producers like Nigeria, Angola, and Algeria. Long-term energy agreements could offer stability to these African nations while providing India with alternative supply routes that bypass high-risk areas.
In addition to energy cooperation, Amondi highlights the deepening ties in other sectors, such as healthcare and trade. Indian pharmaceutical companies have expanded their presence in African countries, enhancing access to affordable healthcare solutions. The growing bilateral trade between India and Africa, exceeding $100 billion, demonstrates a shift towards value addition, digital services, and sustainable growth.
