Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri highlighted the growing cooperation in defense between New Delhi and Tokyo, emphasizing the potential for collaboration across different defense sectors.
PM Modi proposed that defense cooperation should cover all aspects, from design to production and manufacturing. He also mentioned the upcoming India-Japan 2+2 Foreign and Defense Ministerial Meeting in Tokyo. The leaders acknowledged the progress on the UNICORN project, a naval radio antenna-related initiative, and discussed cooperation in land, air, and naval systems, as well as unmanned vehicles. They emphasized the importance of joint military exercises and the need to enhance institutional cooperation in defense.
During a joint press meet, PM Modi announced the signing of an agreement on the first co-development project in the defense sector between India and Japan. He expressed optimism about the collaboration between Japan’s precision technology and India’s software capabilities, particularly in advancing artificial intelligence globally. PM Modi welcomed PM Takaichi’s visit as a significant step in strengthening the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership, highlighting the historical and cultural ties between the two nations.
