Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the signing of an agreement for the first co-development project in the defense sector between India and Japan. This agreement was revealed during a joint press meet with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi at Hyderabad House. PM Modi emphasized the importance of Japan’s role in India’s growth story and highlighted the collaboration’s potential in advancing artificial intelligence through the fusion of Japan’s precision technology and India’s software capabilities.
India and Japan, as two of the world’s largest economies, have prioritized a free, prosperous, and rules-based Indo-Pacific region. Both countries have initiated various projects aimed at enhancing stability and prosperity across the region. PM Modi underscored Japan’s historical contributions to India’s progress across sectors like automotives and electronics, laying the groundwork for a stronger Special Strategic and Global Partnership. Additionally, the leaders discussed plans to bolster supply chain resilience in critical areas such as semiconductors, quantum technology, and advanced materials, along with key decisions on energy security.
The bilateral discussions between India and Japan also focused on economic and energy security, recognizing the significance of these aspects in the current global landscape. Both nations have outlined a joint roadmap for economic security to enhance supply chain resilience in strategic sectors. Notably, initiatives like the India-Japan Biogas Initiative aim to establish 1,000 biogas and organic fertilizer plants in India, aligning with sustainability efforts and rural livelihood enhancement under the ‘GobarDhan’ initiative.
