India and Seychelles have signed agreements to enhance their bilateral relations in trade, digital technology, and agriculture. During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Seychelles, discussions with President Patrick Herminie led to significant initiatives. These include a Rs 1,250 crore line of credit agreement between the Export-Import Bank of India and Seychelles’ Ministry of Finance, Economic Planning, Trade, and Investment.
The talks between President Herminie and Prime Minister Modi covered various areas such as development cooperation, clean energy, creative industries, and health. Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s commitment to strengthening ties by proposing direct shipping links, increased trade in local currencies, and improved connectivity to boost trade and tourism. Additionally, India pledged support in areas like providing ambulances, affordable medicines through the Janaushadhi Scheme, and training for Seychellois medical staff.
Furthermore, both countries committed to collaborations in sports training, youth exchange programs, and promoting Seychelles as a creative and filming destination. They also participated in the virtual groundbreaking of the India-assisted Professional and Technical Education Centre and inaugurated solar water pumping systems under the International Solar Alliance. The agreements also encompass cooperation in agricultural research and education, mutual recognition of training and certification for seafarers on Seychelles-flagged vessels, and joint efforts in outer space exploration.
