India captain Shubman Gill expressed disappointment with his team’s performance in the 41-run loss to New Zealand in the series decider at the Holkar Stadium. New Zealand’s strong batting, led by Daryl Mitchell and Glenn Phillips, set a challenging target of 337/8, which India fell short of despite Virat Kohli’s century.
Gill acknowledged the need for reflection and improvement, especially after India’s fifth home ODI series defeat since 2010. He praised Kohli’s batting prowess and highlighted Harshit Rana’s impressive performance with the bat, particularly his first ODI fifty at number eight.
Looking ahead to the 2027 Men’s ODI World Cup, Gill mentioned the team’s focus on providing opportunities to young all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy. Despite efforts from Kohli, Reddy, and Rana in the chase, India’s early wickets and the challenging target proved insurmountable, leading to their defeat.
