India criticized Pakistan for the ongoing protests in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), attributing the unrest to Islamabad’s historical exploitation and denial of basic rights. The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, highlighted Pakistan’s use of excessive police force, disruption of essential supplies, and internet shutdowns in response to the protests. He urged the international community to hold Pakistan accountable for its actions.
Jaiswal emphasized that the protests in PoJK are a direct result of Pakistan’s prolonged exploitation and suppression of fundamental rights in the region. He condemned Pakistan’s harsh tactics, including violence against civilians, blocking of supplies, and deployment of lethal force. India expects global scrutiny of Pakistan’s actions and hopes for accountability for the reported abuses and violations.
Local residents in PoJK have been staging significant anti-government demonstrations, demanding their rights and challenging Pakistan’s authority in the region. The protests, initially focused on basic needs, have evolved into a broader movement against Pakistan’s control. Leaders in PoJK have openly criticized Pakistani authorities, accusing them of neglecting the local population’s grievances and resorting to violence instead.
Videos circulating on social media depict large groups of PoJK residents, particularly women, protesting against repression, high taxes, and arbitrary arrests. The Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) has announced a planned march towards Muzaffarabad on July 15 to rally more people in the region to join the protest against the current situation in PoJK.
