India Faces Doubles Setback, Fangran Tian Upsets Fourth Seed at Mumbai Open WTA 125K Series

Hosts India encountered a setback at the 2026 Mumbai Open WTA 125K Series as two top doubles contenders were eliminated. Meanwhile, China’s Fangran Tian caused an upset by defeating Hanne Vandewinkel, the fourth seed of the tournament. The day witnessed intense action in both singles and doubles matches at the Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association (MSLTA).

In the doubles event, the top-seeded duo of Rutuja Bhosale and Peangtarn Plipuech also bowed out in the quarterfinals. However, Lilli Tagger continued her impressive performance, advancing to the next round. Lanlana Tararudee and Tatiana Prozorova secured victories in the singles matches.

Rutuja Bhosale and Peangtarn Plipuech faced Nicole Fossa Huergo and Mananchaya Sawangkaew in the doubles quarterfinals. Despite winning the first set, the Indian pair could not maintain their lead, eventually losing in a tiebreaker.

Later in the day, Ankita Raina and Shrivalli Bhamidipaty competed against Leolia Jeanjean and Naima Karamoko, with the latter duo emerging victorious in straight sets.

The day began with a notable upset as Fangran Tian defeated Hanne Vandewinkel in a fiercely contested match. Tian staged a remarkable comeback after dropping the first set, securing her place in the quarterfinals.

In another match, Lanlana Tararudee overcame Park So-hyun in a thrilling encounter that lasted over two hours. Lilli Tagger and Tatiana Prozorova also claimed victories in their respective matches.
