The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted widespread rainfall and thunderstorms in Assam over the next week. Starting from June 5, heavy rain and lightning are expected to impact various districts. The Regional Meteorological Centre in Guwahati anticipates scattered rain and thunderstorms across most parts of the state, with more intense weather conditions likely between June 5 and June 8.
Districts in western, central, northern, and southern Assam are at risk of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and isolated heavy rainfall during this period. Western Assam districts, including Dhubri, South Salmara-Mankachar, Kokrajhar, and others, may experience thunderstorms with lightning and heavy rain from June 5 onwards. Similar weather patterns are also expected in parts of Kamrup, Nalbari, and nearby areas.
In central Assam, districts like Darrang, Sonitpur, Biswanath, and others could witness thunderstorms and isolated heavy rainfall in the coming days. The Met department warns of hot and humid weather persisting in some districts before the rainfall activity intensifies. Upper Assam districts, including Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, and more, are likely to receive widespread rainfall along with thunderstorms and lightning. Isolated heavy showers are probable, particularly between June 5 and June 7.
Southern Assam districts, such as Cachar, Hailakandi, Sribhumi, and Dima Hasao, have also been put on alert for thunderstorms with lightning and heavy rainfall at isolated locations. Officials advise caution during thunderstorms and recommend avoiding shelter under trees or near electric poles during lightning strikes. Residents in flood-prone areas are urged to monitor local weather updates closely, as heavy rainfall may lead to waterlogging.
The IMD has issued warnings for each day, valid from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. the following day.
