Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared the elevation of the India-Norway relationship to a Green Strategic Partnership during a joint press statement with Norwegian PM Jonas Gahr Store in Oslo. This partnership aims to leverage India’s scale and talent with Norway’s technology and capital across various sectors, including clean energy, climate resilience, the blue economy, and green shipping. PM Modi expressed appreciation for Norway’s support for India’s Arctic research station Himadri and highlighted the new space cooperation dimension through a Memorandum of Understanding between ISRO and the Norwegian Space Agency.
The strategic partnership between India and Norway is expected to foster global solutions by combining the strengths of both countries. PM Modi emphasized the significance of this partnership in addressing climate change, protecting ecosystems, and ensuring a sustainable future for humanity. He also acknowledged Norway’s solidarity with India following a terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, expressing gratitude for the unwavering support during challenging times.
In addition to enhancing research collaboration in areas such as sustainability, ocean energy, geology, and health, India and Norway have committed to strengthening cooperation in the marine economy, maritime security, and capacity building. The two nations have also signed a triangular development cooperation agreement to support human development in Global South countries through India’s digital public infrastructure projects. Furthermore, Norway’s participation in the Indo-Pacific Ocean Initiative signifies a shared commitment to maritime cooperation and capacity building.
