Union Minister for Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi highlighted at the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Assembly in Abu Dhabi that India presents a $300 billion investment scope in renewable energy sectors by 2030. With consistent policies and transparent markets, India remains a top choice for clean energy investments. Joshi emphasized the need for global cooperation, technology transfer, affordable finance access, and standard harmonization to aid developing nations in scaling up renewable energy without hindering development goals.
Reiterating India’s support for IRENA, Joshi expressed readiness to share expertise and collaborate with member countries, especially focusing on Least Developed Countries and Small Island Developing States, to expedite the global renewable energy shift. He stressed that India’s energy transition is not just about capacity expansion but also about fostering a sustainable future for all, guided by the principle of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ – One Earth, One Family, One Future. India aims to achieve 500 GW of non-fossil fuel power capacity by 2030 and Net Zero emissions by 2070.
Joshi noted a significant milestone, stating that India has already reached 50% of its electricity capacity from non-fossil fuel sources in 2025, surpassing its Paris Agreement targets. India, as a rapidly growing energy market, is prioritizing robust power systems through swift deployment of energy storage solutions, grid upgrades, and innovative renewable energy projects. The country is also enhancing clean energy supply chains and domestic manufacturing in solar, wind, batteries, and electrolysers to boost self-reliance and global supply chain diversity.
India’s energy transition is centered on people-centric initiatives, with flagship programs like PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana and PM-KUSUM scheme empowering households and farmers through solar installations and agricultural feeders’ solarization. Joshi, in a high-level dialogue, emphasized the importance of a people-focused energy transition, underlining the addition of nearly 50 GW of renewable energy capacity in 2025. He praised the Dominican Republic’s IRENA Presidency and extended well wishes to the Vice-Presidents from Kenya, Solomon Islands, Spain, and Antigua and Barbuda for their efforts in advancing a sustainable global energy transition.
In a meeting with the UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment, Joshi discussed strengthening India-UAE collaboration on climate action, clean energy, and food security. The dialogue focused on expanding partnerships in renewable energy, investment, and innovation, aligning with the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 objective. The discussions emphasized enhancing cooperation in renewables, decentralized energy solutions, manufacturing, and technology to bolster energy security, resilience, and sustainability.
