BJP Yuva Morcha National President and Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya criticized the political class for displaying a growing “VIP culture” and sense of entitlement, particularly in light of Karnataka MLAs seeking IPL tickets. Surya supported Venkatesh Prasad, President of the Karnataka State Cricket Association, for bowing down to CM Siddaramaiah, highlighting what he called a decline in political culture.
Surya expressed disappointment that a respected figure like Prasad, known for his cricket achievements, felt compelled to show deference to a Chief Minister merely for doing his job. He condemned a system where public figures are expected to cater to politicians’ egos and a culture that demands special treatment and privileges without question.
The BJP MP emphasized the need for systemic change beyond this incident, pointing out a deeper decay in political values. Surya called for a new generation of political leadership that prioritizes responsibility over entitlement, stating that a shift is essential at all levels to restore integrity and excellence in governance.
Surya also criticized Karnataka MLAs for prioritizing IPL tickets over crucial matters like safety and security preparedness for fans. He questioned the mindset that views public office as a source of entitlement, urging an end to the culture of seeking privileges instead of fulfilling responsibilities.
State BJP President B. Y. Vijayendra echoed Surya’s sentiments, expressing his personal opposition to legislators requesting IPL tickets. Vijayendra emphasized that elected representatives should not seek special privileges, especially in the aftermath of a tragic incident that claimed innocent lives due to government negligence. He stressed the importance of ending the insensitivity and entitlement mindset among politicians.
