India is set to become a significant trusted partner in global electronic manufacturing, driven by robust policy backing and forward-thinking leadership, according to Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. Vaishnaw highlighted India’s progress in IT services and its rapid growth in electronics manufacturing. Notably, mobile manufacturing has seen substantial advancements, with mobile phones now ranking among the country’s top export commodities.
Under the Semiconductor Mission, India has commenced commercial production, meeting nearly half of the domestic electronic demand through local manufacturing. The Minister stressed India’s increasing role as a reliable partner in semiconductor and electronics production, urging global tech firms, including Google, to consider manufacturing servers, GPUs, and chips within the country.
During the groundbreaking ceremony of Google Cloud India AI Hub in Visakhapatnam, attended by Chief Minister N. He emphasized the importance of India establishing itself as a global hub in key tech sectors like Semiconductors, Quantum, Space, and Artificial intelligence.
A transformative project, with an estimated investment of $15 billion, is underway in partnership with Adani ConneX and Airtel Nxtra, featuring a 1 GW hyperscale AI data center in Visakhapatnam. The state government has allocated approximately 600 acres of land for the project, set to turn Visakhapatnam into AI Patnam (AI City) with cutting-edge infrastructure and international investments.
Vaishnaw expressed gratitude to Google for laying three subsea cables from Visakhapatnam, connecting global digital routes through Australia, the Middle East, Europe, Africa, and the United States.
