India Reaffirms Commitment to Safe Maritime Shipping at AZEC-Plus Meeting

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar emphasized India’s dedication to ensuring secure transit passage for maritime shipping during the AZEC-Plus meeting led by Japan. Jaishankar reiterated India’s strong stance against attacks on merchant shipping, emphasizing the need for uninterrupted energy markets to support global growth.

Several prominent leaders, including Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Philippines President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr, participated in the virtual gathering hosted by Japan to address energy resilience. Leaders from various countries and organizations discussed the importance of regional cooperation in ensuring stable and resilient energy supplies.

Malaysia expressed its commitment to enhancing regional energy cooperation through AZEC, focusing on maintaining a stable energy supply and diversifying energy sources. Philippines President R. Marcos Jr highlighted the nation’s vulnerability to global oil supply shocks, emphasizing the impact of disruptions on the country’s fuel prices due to its reliance on imported petroleum.
