India has reminded the United Nations Security Council that the Pakistani military directly requested the termination of Operation Sindoor, rejecting claims of external interference. India’s Permanent Representative P Harish emphasized the nation’s commitment to safeguarding its citizens, stating that terrorism should never be normalized, contrary to Pakistan’s desires. Operation Sindoor, aligned with the Council’s anti-terrorism stance, concluded following Pakistan’s appeal to halt hostilities after suffering damage to its air force bases.
India’s response to a terrorist attack in Pahalgam last year, attributed to the Lashkar-e-Taiba affiliate The Resistance Front, was described as measured and responsible. In compliance with the Council’s directive to hold perpetrators of terrorism accountable, India’s actions during Operation Sindoor were characterized as calculated, de-escalatory, and aimed at dismantling terrorist networks. The Indian representative highlighted the destruction inflicted on Pakistani air bases by the operation, underscoring the public visibility of the damage.
During a Council debate on upholding international law, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative criticized Operation Sindoor as unprovoked aggression. Refuting claims on Kashmir and the Indus Waters Treaty, India reiterated its stance on Jammu and Kashmir’s integral status and the suspension of the treaty pending Pakistan’s cessation of terror support. India cautioned against Pakistan’s attempts to exploit UN platforms for legitimizing terrorism, urging self-reflection on issues like military influence over constitutional amendments in Pakistan.
