Union Minister for Electronics and IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw, declared that India has secured the Guinness World Records title for the “Most pledges received for an AI responsibility campaign in 24 hours.” This achievement was attained by garnering 2,50,946 valid pledges within a day, from February 16 to February 17, 2026. The nationwide campaign, named ‘AI Responsibility Pledge,’ was initiated under the IndiaAI Mission in partnership with Intel India on February 16. Citizens were invited to commit to the ethical, inclusive, and responsible use of Artificial Intelligence through the dedicated portal, aipledge.indiaai.gov.in.
The announcement was made at the India AI Impact Summit 2026 in Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, in the presence of a Guinness World Records Adjudicator who officially verified the accomplishment. Participants were encouraged to contemplate key principles like data privacy, accountability, transparency, and combating misinformation through scenario-based questions. Those who completed the pledge were awarded a digital badge and granted access to AI learning pathways.
Union Minister Vaishnaw emphasized the importance of moving towards a future where AI is embraced with responsibility, giving credit to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for envisioning the involvement of youth in the responsible and ethical utilization of AI. He highlighted that the Prime Minister’s inspiration led to the authorities taking the pledge to utilize AI for societal good and ensure its responsible use. The massive participation, surpassing the initial target of 5,000 pledges, indicates significant public engagement and a growing awareness regarding responsible AI adoption, as stated by the minister.
The ‘India AI Impact Summit 2026’ serves as a platform bringing together heads of state and government, ministers, global technology leaders, distinguished researchers, multilateral institutions, and industry stakeholders to discuss the role of AI in promoting inclusive growth.
