India’s Foreign Secretary, Vikram Misri, emphasized that the bond between India and Seychelles is not transactional but built on respect, trust, and friendship. This statement was made during a special briefing by the Ministry of External Affairs amid Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Seychelles. India’s support to Seychelles includes gifting a Fast Patrol Vessel, utility vehicles, boats, ambulances, rice, cement, and paramedics to enhance various sectors like maritime security, defense, healthcare, and infrastructure.
The collaboration also involves the construction of a Professional and Technical Education Centre under a special economic package. An Umbrella Line of Credit Agreement worth Rs 1,250 crore was signed to aid priority development projects in Seychelles, with a significant portion as concessional finance assistance. Additionally, a Memorandum of Understanding was inked to introduce Unified Payments Interface digital payment infrastructure in Seychelles in partnership with Indian entities.
During the meeting between PM Modi and Seychelles President Patrick Herminie, discussions included proposals for Indian assistance in acquiring an advanced light helicopter and establishing cybersecurity and Artificial Intelligence centers. PM Modi expressed India’s willingness to explore these proposals positively, paving the way for further deliberations on these initiatives.
