India is set to play a key role in the United States’ Pax Silica framework and its broader critical minerals strategy, as confirmed by a senior US official. Under Secretary of State for Economic Affairs Jacob Helberg mentioned that India will be joining Pax Silica later this month, highlighting the deep technical talent in India that can rival China.
Washington is eager for India’s participation in Pax Silica, anticipating enhanced collaboration on joint projects that benefit both nations. This move is seen as a step towards accelerating American reindustrialization while leveraging India’s strengths for mutual growth. The US aims to secure reliable access to critical minerals through diversified supply chains by working closely with allies like India in the Indo-Pacific region.
Helberg emphasized the importance of establishing supply chains free from single points of failure and market manipulation to prevent disruptions that could impact regional security and prosperity. He also noted India’s existing processing and refining capabilities, which could be utilized through increased cooperation with the US. This partnership aligns with efforts to strengthen supply chain resilience and support clean energy transitions between the two countries.
