India reiterated its position on illegal immigration, stating that all foreign nationals residing unlawfully in the country, including those from Bangladesh, will be handled according to established legal procedures. Deportations of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants are set to proceed once pending nationality verification is completed by Dhaka. The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson emphasized that all foreign nationals in India found to be staying illegally, including those from Bangladesh, will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, highlighted that there is a bilateral mechanism in place for the deportation process of illegal immigrants. He mentioned that cases are referred to the Bangladeshi side for nationality verification, following which the deportation process moves forward. Jaiswal expressed the hope for expedited responses from Bangladesh to facilitate the smooth and efficient deportation of illegal immigrants residing in India.
Last week, the Ministry of External Affairs expressed optimism about receiving a prompt response from Bangladesh regarding the verification of over 2,680 cases of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in India. The process of nationality verification is crucial for potential deportations under the existing bilateral arrangements between the two countries. Jaiswal emphasized that once the nationality of these individuals is confirmed, the deportation process can be initiated based on the established procedures.
