The India U17 women’s team encountered a 0-3 loss to Russia in the second friendly match at the Matsesta Football Center in Sochi. Valeria Menyailova scored twice early in the second half, with Sofia Svyatnaya opening the scoring for Russia. The hosts capitalized on errors to secure the victory.
Coached by Italian Pamela Conti, the Young Tigresses are using these matches to prepare for the upcoming AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup China 2026. In the first game against Russia, India suffered a 0-4 defeat. Russia started strongly, almost scoring in the second minute, but goalkeeper Munni made crucial saves.
Despite Russia’s early lead, India gradually settled into the game. Their first shot on target came in the 13th minute, with Valaina Fernandes attempting a long-range effort. Olivia Chanu Ningthoujam also tested the Russian goalkeeper, marking her youth international debut for India.
In the second half, defensive errors cost India dearly, leading to Russia’s two quick goals. Despite India’s efforts to respond, including a close chance by substitute Pearl Fernandes, Russia maintained their lead. The teams will face each other again on April 17 for the final friendly match.
