India Women’s bowling coach, Aavishkar Salvi, admitted that the team’s execution, not planning, led to their losses in the first two T20Is against South Africa Women’s cricket team. Despite being 2-0 down in the series, Salvi remains optimistic, backing the team to come back stronger in the crucial third game. South Africa’s dominant performances have put them in a commanding position, showcasing their control in both batting and bowling while exposing India’s vulnerabilities, especially in the middle order.
In the initial T20I, India displayed resilience, with captain Harmanpreet Kaur’s unbeaten 47 almost securing a win. However, South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt (51) and Annerie Dercksen (44*) clinched the victory in the final over. The second match saw India struggle, posting 147 runs despite a quick 57 from Shafali Verma. The hosts comfortably chased down the target, propelled by half-centuries from Wolvaardt (54) and Sune Luus (57), supported by strong bowling from Chloe Tryon and Tumi Sekhukhune.
Reflecting on the team’s performance, Salvi highlighted the need for better execution of plans and identified areas for improvement. He emphasized the players’ motivation and experience, expressing confidence in their ability to bounce back. Salvi also praised young talent Kashvee Gautam, acknowledging her potential and determination to excel despite early challenges in the international arena.
Regarding Deepti Sharma’s form, Salvi reiterated her champion qualities and emphasized her hard work to regain top form. He commended Sharma’s dedication to training, focusing on fitness and refining her bowling skills. Salvi expressed faith in Sharma’s ability to shine again, underscoring her resilience and commitment to continuous improvement.
Assessing the fast bowling group, Salvi stressed the importance of executing game plans under pressure. While acknowledging the challenges of cricket’s uncertainties, he expressed satisfaction with the team’s preparation and attitude. Salvi emphasized the coaching staff’s focus on identifying and addressing weaknesses through rigorous training, ensuring the players are ready for upcoming matches.
