India Women’s Cricket Team Sets Historic Record with Highest-Ever ODI Total
India’s Women’s Cricket Team made history on January 15, 2025, by posting their highest-ever total in One-Day Internationals (ODIs). In the third ODI against Ireland at Rajkot, they amassed an incredible 435/5 in 50 overs, setting a new benchmark in women’s cricket. This achievement not only broke their previous record but also placed them among the elite teams to surpass 400 runs in women’s ODI cricket.
The match was defined by outstanding performances from the opening pair—Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal. Mandhana, captaining the side in Harmanpreet Kaur’s absence, was in dazzling form, scoring 135 runs off just 80 balls, including 12 boundaries and seven sixes. Rawal, playing only her second series for India, delivered a remarkable 154 runs off 129 balls, which included 20 boundaries and one six. Their partnership of 233 runs for the first wicket became India’s third-highest partnership in women’s ODIs.
The team’s explosive batting continued as Richa Ghosh contributed a quickfire 59 runs from 32 balls, supported by Tejal’s 28 and Harleen Kaur’s 15. Together, they propelled India’s score to 435 runs, setting a new record for the highest total in their ODI history. India’s feat also made them the third team in women’s cricket history, after New Zealand and Australia, to exceed the 400-run mark.
The Irish bowlers, despite their best efforts, were unable to halt the relentless Indian batting. Orla managed two wickets, while Freya, Kelly, and Dempsey claimed one each. However, the Indian women maintained an aggressive scoring pace, sealing a dominant victory.
This record-breaking performance highlights the rise of India’s women cricketers, with young talents like Rawal and experienced players like Mandhana driving the team’s success. India’s growing prowess on the global stage confirms that they are becoming a major force in women’s cricket, promising a bright future for the sport in the country.
