The tension of a borderless battlefield. The silent war of shadows. A nation’s fight that never makes headlines.
Dhurandhar brings to screen the high-stakes world of espionage and sacrifice—where every move is calculated, and every decision could reshape national history. And with just one look at R. Madhavan’s mysterious, commanding persona, audiences across India are asking the same question:
Is Dhurandhar inspired by real events—and is his character based on NSA Ajit Doval?

Bollywood’s New Face of Realism?

Much like Uri: The Surgical Strike—Aditya Dhar’s previous hit—Dhurandhar drops you into a gritty world where intelligence, courage, and covert action collide. The first-look teaser doesn’t say much, but it doesn’t have to. The message is clear: this is no fantasy.

From Ranveer Singh’s fierce portrayal of a RAW operative to Akshaye Khanna’s ominous presence as a possible antagonist, Dhurandhar walks the thrilling tightrope between fiction and deeply buried truths.

The Shadows Behind the Screen

India’s real-life National Security Advisor, Ajit Doval, is no stranger to secrecy or speculation. From walking the streets of Lahore disguised as a Muslim cleric to planning strategic counter-operations, Doval’s career reads like a spy thriller.

And R. Madhavan’s striking resemblance to the NSA isn’t going unnoticed. The glasses, the grey-streaked hair, the calm but calculating aura—it’s all too similar. Though not officially confirmed, the clues are enough to send the internet into overdrive.

Even the trailer’s tagline—“Inspired by true events”—is enough to stir theories that Dhurandhar may be a cinematic tribute to India’s silent warriors.

Does the Plot Echo Real Incidents?

While specific plot details are tightly under wraps, the synopsis gives us a major hint:
“Uncover the story of unknown men and their unstoppable fight.”

This could very well reference the controversial theory surrounding India’s alleged elimination of threats abroad—particularly in Pakistan—by unidentified agents, a narrative often associated with Ajit Doval’s strategic outlook.

Over recent years, several terrorists wanted in India were mysteriously gunned down on foreign soil. Many speculate this is the work of RAW operatives acting under the radar—operations potentially supervised by India’s NSA.

Real Inspiration or Political Fiction?

Much like Drishyam or Anjaam Pathiraa, which weren’t literal retellings of real-life events but carried the spirit of truth, Dhurandhar seems to be a blend of imagination and reality. Director Aditya Dhar’s storytelling thrives on realism, and the similarities between the reel and real-life characters are too precise to be accidental.

But until an official confirmation comes, Dhurandhar remains a fictional interpretation of India’s covert intelligence world—one that clearly takes creative inspiration from real-life heroes.

So, Is Dhurandhar Based on a True Story?

Not officially. As of now, Dhurandhar isn’t confirmed to be a direct retelling of Ajit Doval’s life or any specific incident. But the hints—from character designs to geopolitical themes—suggest the film draws heavy inspiration from India’s real-life intelligence operations.

The first look has given us just a glimpse, but it’s already sparked nationwide curiosity. As more promotional material drops, especially the official trailer, we’ll likely get greater clarity on how closely the film aligns with true events. Until then, all we can say is: Dhurandhar seems ready to blur the lines between national security fact and high-octane fiction.
