Indian-American businessman and venture capitalist Vinod Khosla, speaking at the India AI Impact Summit 2026, predicted that by 2050, Artificial Intelligence (AI) advancements could render jobs unnecessary. Khosla emphasized the increasing power and capabilities of AI systems, suggesting a significant shift in the job landscape in the upcoming decades. He highlighted that by 2025, the transformation in traditional employment structures due to AI would become unmistakable.
Khosla, a prominent figure in Silicon Valley known for his insights on AI’s disruptive potential, cautioned that white-collar employment could face substantial elimination due to artificial intelligence. He specifically mentioned that IT services and business process outsourcing (BPO) firms might witness near-complete disappearance within the next five years. At the summit, Khosla reiterated his belief, suggesting that the outsourcing industry might cease to exist by 2030.
Despite skepticism in some quarters about AI’s impact on the IT sector in India, Khosla stressed that rapid technological progress would disrupt industries crucial to India’s economic growth. He also criticized the practice of long tenures at large corporations, warning that such prolonged stints could hinder professionals’ adaptability in a rapidly evolving technological landscape. Khosla highlighted the importance of flexibility as industries undergo transformations.
While acknowledging India’s strides in artificial intelligence, Khosla commended the country’s efforts in the field. He lauded the success of the summit, noting a significant turnout of over 3 lakh participants. Khosla advocated for the development of sovereign AI models tailored to national interests, particularly in critical areas like cyber security and defense. He emphasized the need for countries to build their AI capabilities rather than relying on foreign models, citing his investment in Sarvam to support India’s AI aspirations.
