Dallas, Texas – September 11, 2025

The Indian American community in the United States is reeling after the shocking and brutal killing of Chandramouli “Bob” Nagamallaiah, a 50-year-old motel manager, who was beheaded in Dallas on Wednesday morning.

According to Dallas Police, the incident occurred at the Downtown Suites motel on Samuell Boulevard around 9:30 a.m. on September 10. Nagamallaiah, who lived on the property with his wife and son, was attacked following a dispute with an employee over a broken washing machine.

The Incident

Investigators say the suspect, Yordanis Cobos-Martinez, 37, became enraged after Nagamallaiah told him through a translator not to use the faulty machine. The argument escalated, and Cobos-Martinez allegedly retrieved a machete before launching a deadly assault.

Eyewitness accounts and police reports state that Nagamallaiah’s wife and son tried desperately to intervene, but the suspect continued the attack, ultimately decapitating the victim in front of his family.

Arrest and Charges

Cobos-Martinez was taken into custody shortly after the incident. He is charged with capital murder and is currently being held without bond. Immigration authorities have also placed a detainer on him.

About the Victim

Nagamallaiah, originally from India, was widely known in the Dallas motel community as a hardworking and kind man. Friends and colleagues described him as a devoted family man who managed the property with dedication. His untimely and horrific death has left the Indian diaspora in Texas and across the U.S. deeply shaken.

Community Reaction

Local Indian organizations and community leaders have expressed shock and grief, calling for stronger workplace safety measures and support for the victim’s family. Vigils are expected in the coming days to honor Nagamallaiah’s life and legacy.

What Happens Next

Authorities continue to investigate the sequence of events leading up to the crime. Court proceedings against Cobos-Martinez are expected to begin soon.

The Indian community in Dallas has rallied around the bereaved family, offering prayers, financial support, and solidarity in this difficult time.
