The Indian American community in the United States is reeling after the shocking and brutal killing of Chandramouli “Bob” Nagamallaiah, a 50-year-old motel manager, who was beheaded in Dallas on Wednesday morning.
According to Dallas Police, the incident occurred at the Downtown Suites motel on Samuell Boulevard around 9:30 a.m. on September 10. Nagamallaiah, who lived on the property with his wife and son, was attacked following a dispute with an employee over a broken washing machine.
The Incident
Investigators say the suspect, Yordanis Cobos-Martinez, 37, became enraged after Nagamallaiah told him through a translator not to use the faulty machine. The argument escalated, and Cobos-Martinez allegedly retrieved a machete before launching a deadly assault.
Eyewitness accounts and police reports state that Nagamallaiah’s wife and son tried desperately to intervene, but the suspect continued the attack, ultimately decapitating the victim in front of his family.
Arrest and Charges
Cobos-Martinez was taken into custody shortly after the incident. He is charged with capital murder and is currently being held without bond. Immigration authorities have also placed a detainer on him.
